Water Bottle Christmas Ornament – DIY
Ok jolly upcyclers, it’s that time of year. I was inspired to do something with all those 16.9 oz plastic bottles sitting in my blue recycling bin and here is the outcome:

What you need:
Several 16.9 oz plastic water bottles or any suitable substitute with caps
Craft glue and superglue
Assorted small round ornaments (broken ones work great)
Assorted glitter
Colored pipe cleaners that match your tree (or not)
Nail and hammer
Good scissors
Medium sized craft paint brush
![Supplies](http://www.22casa.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/IMG_1622-480x640.jpg)
*Craft paint optional for a different look
Steps:
-Cut across bottle about 1.5 inches from top
-Cut petals bending them outward to create floral shape
-Remove cap and use a nail and hammer to make a hole in center large enough to fit pipe cleaner through
-Slip pipe cleaner through hole creating a knot on the inside of cap
-Apply glue to your petals and inside of lid with a decent sized craft brush (bigger brush makes things go faster, feel free to use paint here as well)
-Cover petals with glitter (I dipped and sprinkled different colors)
-Apply superglue to the lower fourth of your ornament and insert into inside of bottle opening
-Screw on the cap knot side up
-Let your creation dry
-Wrap around tree branch

I made these with my four year old, thus the wild colors and homage to pink and purple. I can see this working beautifully with smaller or bigger bottles, a monochromatic color scheme — think gold on silver with glitter glass or paint dipped edges and patterns. You can also embellish wreaths, garlands, gift boxes etc. Whatever the case, this is fun for all and makes great use of the pesky bottles mother earth can certainly live without.
Happy holidays!
