Elastic Bracelet DIY

This is possibly the world’s easiest bracelet to make. You can use just about any type of elastic cording and go with whatever beads you might have on hand. Mix and match colors, stack them, or get a theme going. I went to my jewelry box on this one and dismantled a necklace from waaaaaay back.

What you need:

-Elastic string. I prefer .5 mm and sometimes bump up to 1mm for durability when making as a gift for children. The denser the elastic, the bigger the knot, which can make hiding it inside of a bead or charm more challenging.

-Enough beads to fit around your wrist + a few extra

-A charm

-Scissors

-Tape

Steps:

1. Cut a 14″ inch piece of elastic and fold a piece of tape over one end, this keeps the beads from slipping

2. Add beads until you have enough to wrap around your wrist, make sure it’s not too tight

3. Add your charm once you have reached the desired size/comfort level of bracelet.

4. Now for the knots. You will make a total of three knots. Tie your first underhand knot (see diagram) — not too loose, not too tight. Your second knot is a double underhand knot (see diagram), basically you are just adding one more loop. Pull cord in a west to east, north to south direction. For extra security, repeat the tightening four times. The last knot is a another simple underhand knot, make it tight. You can add a dab of craft glue for extra hold, blot it with your fingers. I normally don’t use glue as it makes the knot a little stiff.

5. Cut the tails off the cord as close to the final knot as possible. Cover knot under charm or tuck into a bead. Enjoy!
